Post-doctoral Researcher in Food Microbiology with Focus on Campylobacter
SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
A post-doc position is available at the Section of Bacteriology and Food Safety, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.
The main focus of the research at the Section of Bacteriology and Food Safety is to study various aspects of pathogenicity and diversity of bacteria that are important in veterinary medicine and public health. We also work with the epidemiology of the corresponding diseases and zoonotic or potentially zoonotic bacteria. Our research activities are focused on pathogenicity mechanisms, antibiotic resistance, phylogeny and characterization of new and potentially important bacteria. To do this we use classical methods of bacterial cultivations as well as sequence analysis and other molecular methods to study bacterial diversity. Currently the section consists of three professor, five senior researchers/lectures, two adjunct lecturer, one PhD students, one lab technician, one post doc and various guest researchers.
Duties: To be responsible for analysis of survival of Campylobacter in surrounding microflora and depth analysis for example by WGS, PCR and resistance of the existing strain collection of Campylobacter, in close contact with other researcher at the section. The duties include all aspects from planning, experimental design, performing experiments and analysis of data to publishing the findings. The analytic methods of this research will be discussed and depend on the background/qualifications of the applicant. To write applications for further financing and be involved in teaching at the department are also part of duties within this position.
Qualifications: A PhD in microbiology, preferably with focus on bacterial infections. The candidate must be highly experienced in practical laboratory work and skilful in analysis of different molecular methods. Also knowledge in statistics is highly beneficial. The applicant should have a good ability to work in a team, ability to work independently and personal qualities are also of high importance.
Competence: As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
