Your tasks:

The Division of Theoretical Bioinformatics (Head: Prof. Roland Eils) at the German Cancer Research Center and the BioQuant Center is developing computer-assisted methods for interpreting complex genomic data. We perform data analysis and interpretation for several cancer genomics projects within the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) and the Heidelberg Center for Personalized Oncology (dkfz-hipo). The analysis of these datasets has allowed tremendous progress in understanding the mutational landscape and pathogenetic mechanisms of the investigated tumor types (Jones et al., Nature, 2011; Richter et al., Nat. Genet., 2012; Weischenfeldt et al., Cancer Cell, 2013; Jones et al., Nat. Genet., 2013; Jäger et al., Cell, 2013). However, most of the current analyses relied only on a single data type and made only limited use of the comprehensive molecular characterization of the tumors. Integrative analysis of multiple data types and mathematical modeling will result in a deeper understanding of cancer-specific deregulations and the crosstalks between genetic and epigenetic components. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to perform integrative analysis on large genomic and epigenomic (including DANN methylation, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq) datasets which are either already available in our group or which will be generated using state-of-the-art techniques.

Your Profile

  • PhD with a substantial component in bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer science (or equivalent experience);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Good understanding of molecular and cancer biology;
  • Working experience with UNIX-like operating systems;
  • Programming skills with scripting languages such as Perl or Python;
  • Solid knowledge in statistics and R programming;
  • Experience in the analysis of next generation sequencing data is a strong plus;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Ability to work independently and excellent team working skills.
