The Department of Immunology at Erasmus MC University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands is inviting applicants for a faculty appointment at the level of Professor. This recruitment is part of a program to expand fundamental and molecular Immunology in the Department of Immunology.

The Department of Immunology performs cutting edge basic and translational research, participates in patient care by performing laboratory diagnostics (Laboratory for Medical Immunology) and supporting Clinical Immunology, and performs a wide range of educational activities. Major research focuses in the department span molecular to clinical immunology and includes the development and function of innate and adaptive immunity, autoimmunity, immune deficiencies, immunity to infection, neuroimmunology, and lymphoid malignancies. The department has state of-the-art facilities and equipment that support basic and translational research. The department is involved in multiple international consortia and networks, which facilitate innovation and rapid implementation of new immunological concepts and technologies.

Qualifications and skills

Outstanding candidates working in any area of Molecular Immunology will be considered. Research may involve transcriptional, posttranscriptional, translational and post-translational regulation of genes involved in lymphocyte development & differentiation, immunity to pathogens, tumor immunity or autoimmunity. The candidate will employ state-of-the-art technologies and approaches such as -omics approaches (i.e. transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, glycomics or metabolomics) or other cutting edge approaches to address immunology questions. The research can employ human tissues and/or animal models. The candidates research will be multidisciplinary and involve the productive collaboration between various pre-clinical and/or clinical departments at Erasmus MC.

Candidates are expected to be experts and have an international reputation in the field of fundamental and molecular immunology. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, publications in leading peer-review journals, presentations at international scientific conferences and demonstrated success in obtaining competitive research funding. Successful candidates will be expected to establish original, competitive and independently funded research programs. Candidates are expected to have team spirit and be highly collaborative within the department and Erasmus MC, and also establish national and international research collaborations. Successful candidates must have a commitment to excellence in teaching Immunology at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
