Senior Research Associate in Chemical and Synthetic Biology
University of Bristol - Faculty of Science
Bristol, United Kingdom
A senior research associate position is available to support the research group of Professor Dek Woolfson, which works on rational protein design and bridges Chemistry, Biochemistry and the University’s Synthetic Biology Research Centre, BrisSynBio. More specifically, research activity in the Woolfson group spans computational peptide and protein design, the production of peptides and proteins using both synthetic and recombinant approaches, the biophysical and structural characterization of these molecules, and their applications to address problems and challenges in chemical and synthetic biology.
The primary responsibilities of this post are to oversee and ensure the smooth running of experimental aspects of the Woolfson research lab, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of research in the Woolfson lab and the training of undergraduate and new post-graduate students, which number ≈10 each year. In addition to these core duties, there will be considerable opportunity for the successful candidate to develop new research projects in protein design and synthetic biology with Professor Woolfson, including helping to write grant proposals and in managing defined research projects within the lab. There will be opportunities to forge collaborative links to others across and outside the School, particularly with those interested in biomolecular design and synthesis, and applications thereof.
