Research Technician - Saunders Group
JIC - John Innes Centre
Norwich, United Kingdom
A Research Technician position is newly available in the Saunders group at the John Innes Centre (JIC), Norwich, UK. The main purpose of this post is to provide technical support to a project aimed at examining the molecular mechanisms underpinning host specificity for the yellow rust pathogen across various cereal hosts. Yellow rust disease is a major threat to cereal crops and grasses worldwide, causing significant losses to the global wheat harvest each year. The appointee will assist with pathogen infection assays and scoring these pathology tests performed across an array of cereal hosts in the laboratory. In addition, the appointee help with the extraction of DNA and RNA from infected plant tissue. This project provides an exciting opportunity for the candidate to work in a multidisciplinary research group in the Crop Genetics department at the JIC.
The work will involve an array of molecular biology and plant pathology techniques. Applicants should have a BSc degree in a relevant subject. Familiarity with DNA/RNA extractions and pathogen infection assays would be advantageous.
