The Cytokine Receptor Lab (CRL) is part of the VIB Center for Medical Biotechnology and is located in the historical Rommelaere campus of Ghent University. The CRL is headed by Prof. Jan Tavernier and currently houses a team of over 30 researchers. Recently, Orionis Biosciences was founded as a spin-off company based on technologies developed at CRL.
CRL is developing AcTakines (Activity-on-Target cytokines) that allow specific targeting of cytokine activity to selected cell types. This approach eliminates the systemic toxicity that has hampered the clinical use of many cytokines, including type I interferons, tumor necrosis factor and many interleukins. Having obtained substantial (inter)national funding, we are currently applying this novel immunotherapy strategy in several preclinical cancer models including humanized mice. In support of this, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with experience in cancer immunology. One of the aims will be to support the development of patient-derived xenograft models for both leukemias and solid cancers.
