The assignment consists of scientific research, lecturing duties and academic service to society.
You will expand the scientific research in the area of sustainable chemistry, as well as the capacity to provide strong and proactive academic leadership in developing a high impact chemical research program, as part of an integrated and collaborative approach to sustainable chemistry and materials research across the university. You connect to existing strong research competences and lifts this knowledge to a higher technology readiness level (TRL).
All areas of chemical engineering based on strong materials research are of interest, including but not limited to: valorization of side and waste streams, renewable chemicals, continuous chemical processing flow chemistry, chemical reactor engineering, catalysis and separations, energy and sustainability, process intensification and systems engineering, nanoscience and nanotechnology.
You will support and cooperate with relevant research groups collaborating in the interdisciplinary Institute of Environment and Sustainable development (IMDO) of the Faculty of Science, department of Chemistry and department of Bioscience Engineering, Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences and the Faculty of Applied Engineering that are active in the area of sustainable chemistry.
You will support the Blue_App concept, building and business model by providing scientific and technological support to this open innovation hub. The building is in construction and your starting date might be filled in gradually depending on this realisation.
You will lead the further development of collaborative links (research and other) across the industry.
You will acquire and manage external funding (national and international) mainly oriented to TRL 4-6 and in strong cooperation with industry.
You will supervise master and doctoral students.
You will contribute to the development of and offer scientific services to Blue App as pre-incubator for Sustainable (process) chemistry.
You will be assigned limited lecturing duties in Sustainable Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry and Chemical Process Technology in service of the supporting departments.
Candidate selection is weighted, toward the potential impact and innovativeness of the proposed research program, its relevance for chemical industry and its valorization related to existing research activities.
Profile and requirements
You hold a doctorate degree (PhD) in Chemistry, Bioscience Engineering or Engineering or equivalent.
You have preferably more than 6 years’ experience on postdoctoral level or R&D experience in an industrial environment at the closing date of the vacancy.
You have an international academic or industrial CV and perform qualitatively outstanding academic research in the broader field according to the domain involved.
The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university.
Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
You have leadership skills (or the potential to develop them).
You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
