The research involves studies of nano-structured solids by Raman spectroscopy applying varying excitation wavelengths in combination with EPR, UV-vis-NIR and fluorescence spectroscopy. The materials of interest are oxides and metal nanoparticles used in heterogeneous catalysis and energy-related applications. The aim of the project is to determine the surface structure of the catalysts at an atomistic level. The spectroscopic measurements will be performed under operation usually in gas-phase reactions at elevated temperatures. The functionality will be proven by gas chromatography or mass spectrometry of the reaction products formed. Isotope exchange experiments will be used to support assignments of spectroscopic features.
The project is involved in the collaboration of the Fritz-Haber-Institut with the UniSysCat - BASF - JointLab at the Technical University Berlin.
The eligible candidate is highly motivated, ambitious, works independently and well in a team. Effective communication and writing skills are essential. A sound background in physical chemistry or chemical physics is required. Experiences in in-situ spectroscopy and DFT calculations are advantageous. The candidate should hold a PhD in chemistry or physics.
