Senior Lecturer in Mathematical Statistics

The Department is currently seeking a Senior Lecturer in the subject area of Mathematical Statistics. The successful applicant for this post is expected to conduct research and teaching in the area applied to forest sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to provide consultation to other researchers.

Duties

The Senior Lecturer will work with development of the Department’s research in the subject area, environmental monitoring and assessment programs and education. Specific tasks for the Senior Lecturer will be to:

  • develop and lead the teaching of Mathematical Statistics at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral levels, as well as supervise doctoral students,
  • carry out statistical consultation within the Department as well as at other departments at the Faculty of Forest Sciences and SLU,
  • contribute to the development of the subject area of Mathematical Statistics, and regularly publish scientific articles and participate in scientific conferences,
  • develop and maintain national and international networks of researchers, industry and society,
  • actively seek external funding for research.

Qualifications

A person shall be qualified for appointment as Senior Lecturer if he or she has:

  • completed a doctorate in Mathematical Statistics, Statistics, or equivalent,
  • demonstrated skills in research in Mathematical Statistics, Statistics, or related subjects,
  • good pedagogic skills and has completed university pedagogic courses equivalent to ca 10 weeks full-time studies or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means,
  • good knowledge in English.

Assessment criteria

Assessment for the appointment will be based on the degree to which the candidate possesses the skills required to qualify for appointment.

In assessing teaching expertise, importance will be attached to:

  • experience of planning, conducting and evaluation of teaching,
  • experience of supervision and examination at doctoral level,
  • the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in teaching.
  • In assessing the research expertise, importance will be attached to:
  • completed and ongoing research,
  • the ability to independently initiate and conduct innovative research,
  • experience of applying for and attracting external research grants.

Furthermore, skills in the following areas are relevant:

  • develop and lead operations and personnel in an academic environment,
  • communicate and cooperate,
  • interact with society outside the university,
  • disseminate results from research and development work,
  • provide advice and assistance.

Good knowledge in Swedish is a merit. Strong skills in statistical methods including regression analysis, variance analysis, time series analysis and experimental design is a merit, as well as skills and experience in forestry-related research.
