The Department of Cardiovascular Diseases is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist (m/f) Multi-OMICs Data Analysis and Integration for Precision Medicine

The German Heart Center of the Free State of Bavaria associated to the Technical University of Munich is a clinic with international reputation and a state of the art technical and medical equipment.

Extend our German Heart Center research team and enhance the scientific knowledge in the field of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and Multi-OMICS-driven Precision Medicine. DigiMed Bayern is a Bavarian multi-million Euro project to improve digital health and enables our consortium of prestigious academic partner sites to develop a profound understanding of atherosclerosis - the main risk factor for myocardial infarction and stroke. We are looking forward to responsibly acting person willing to learn and adapt to a highly dynamic and agile research environment.

Major Tasks:

  • Multi-Omics data (Genomics, Transcriptomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Microbiome) analysis and integration with clinical data;
  • Application of the existing bioinformatics tools, as well as the development and implementation of novel bioinformatics solutions and pipelines;
  • Working in a Linux environment on a server cluster, using Bash scripting, as well as R, Python and or Java programming languages;
  • You will work in an international, team-oriented, academically interconnected environment (we offer the opportunity to also learn from our partner sites).

Key requirements:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology or similar, e.g. Master's degree/Diploma plus at least three years of professional experience;
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience with omics and next-generation sequencing datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and microbiome), as well as the relevant data analysis tools and pipelines;
  • Experience in working in a Linux environment and knowledge of Bash scripting, R and Python is required;
  • Previous knowledge and/or strong interest in human genetics and multi-OMICs driven precision medicine is highly appreciated;
  • Strong bioinformatics and statistical knowledge and expertise is a prerequisite. Lab experience is a plus, at least some basic understanding is required;
  • Ability to write and speak English well is a must, knowledge of German would be advantageous.
