Manage the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering function for the Diamond facility.
Provide the mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems engineering and design role for the Diamond machine, beamlines, front ends and their overall layout and integration within the synchrotron building, including the interface to, and distribution of M&E services.
Manage and nurture a close and productive relationship with all related support groups at Diamond (e.g. Controls, Beam Diagnostics, Software, Optics and Metrology).
Manage a mechanical and electrical design office, including CAD and FEA systems and procedures for drawing production, approval and archive, etc.
Manage the Survey and Alignment, M&E workshop and inspection services for the whole facility.
Manage engineering input to procurement specifications, tender evaluation, contract supervision and quality control.
Oversee the installation, assembly and integration of the accelerator and front-end components, the commissioning of the relevant services and ensure a high degree of operational reliability.
Manage the facilities for the construction and maintenance of machine and front-end components.
Maintain and develop expertise in Finite Element Analysis and in vibration measurement and analysis.
Maintain close collaborations with Diamond Science Division in the delivery of engineering solutions to support the scientific research of staff and users.
Lead, develop and manage a large Engineering Group to support the above activities.
Ensure that engineering designs and products comply with relevant standards and directives.
Keep up-to-date with new engineering technologies & developments and promote their use within Diamond.
At an international level, establish contacts at other synchrotrons and relevant science facilities as well as with industry and represent Diamond at workshops and conferences.
Contribute to making Diamond a safe and inclusive place to work and to the wider development of management practice across Diamond.
