An appointment as Senior Lecturer in Bioenergy Systems is vacant at the Department of Energy and Technology. SLU, Uppsala. The Department's research focuses on how biobased production and energy systems can contribute to a sustainable society. The department offers a stimulating work environment with great competence in both basic and applied knowledge. System analysis of biobased energy systems is an important and comprehensive part of the activities. We are involved in a large number of research projects nationally and internationally in the field. In addition, we have an important role in, among other things, the Master Programme in Energy Systems engineering, which is given in cooperation with Uppsala University.

Subject area

The subject of employment is bioenergy systems, focusing on environmentally friendly and resource-efficient systems for production, supply, conversion and end-use of biomass to energy. The subject is system-oriented, that is, it is the characteristics of the entire chain from raw material supply to end-use that is in focus. The environmental impact of energy systems and methodologies for environmental systems analysis are key aspects of the subject.

Duties

The Senior Lecturer shall

  • lead and develop education in bioenergy systems at undergraduate, advanced and doctoral levels
  • develop and lead successful research within bioenergy systems
  • contribute to the development of postgraduate education in bioenergy systems, as well as to supervision of doctoral students
  • develop and maintain national and international networks with researchers, industry the sector and society in general
  • communicate on research and research results
  • actively seek external research funding
  • be able to teach within Swedish in two years

Qualifications

The applicant shall

  • have obtained a doctorate in a relevant natural science subject or have equivalent scientific competence
  • be scientifically skilled in the subject of employment
  • have good knowledge of English
  • be pedagogically skilled and have undergone university education equivalent to approximately 10 weeks full-time studies (or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge)

Assessment criteria

  • Assessment for the appointment will be based on the degree to which the candidate possesses the skills to qualify for the position.
  • Evaluation of the pedagogic skills will be based on
    • experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching
    • experience of supervision and examination at the doctoral level
    • ability to integrate research and a scientific approach in the educational work
  • Evaluation of the scientific skills will be based on
    • both research activities carried out and ongoing research
    • the ability to independently initiate and conduct innovative research
    • experience in seeking and obtaining external research funding
  • Furthermore, skills in the following areas are relevant
    • to develop and lead operations and personnel in an academic environment
    • to communicate and cooperate
    • to interact with society outside the university
    • to disseminate results from research and development work
    • to convey advice
  • Good knowledge of Swedish is meritorious.
  • Equal care is devoted to the evaluations of expertise in teaching and research.
