Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centers: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Senior Research Technician in the lab of Prof. Giuseppe Testa, Neurogenomics Research Centre (Testa Group - Human Technopole).

We are looking for a highly-motivated technician who will provide laboratory support for projects involving human stem cell and organoids culture and cutting-edge molecular biology and neuroscience technologies.

The role will be responsible for technical work in the lab of Prof. Giuseppe Testa in the Neurogenomics Research Centre, focused on the high definition modelling of neurodevelopmental disorders through the integration of brain organoids technologies and a wide suite of multi-omic and in vitro/in vivo functional assays.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Conducting experiments in the area of stem cell neurobiology, combining cutting-edge methods from molecular biology, genome editing, biochemistry, cell biology and organoids, with a strong emphasis on advanced human cell culture pipelines, single cell and spatial genomics approaches and advanced in vivo modelling assays;
  • Optimizing and scaling up pipelines to perform cell culture experiments in high throughput and/or high content;
  • Generating/importing and optimizing new tools and protocols;
  • Generating reliable data for publication in the projects to which s/he is assigned and record all data and results in specified forms (with Electronic Lab Notebooks);
  • Providing technical support and supervision to other laboratory members, including introduction and teaching of new laboratory techniques and support on the use of lab equipment to lab members;
  • Liaising with the Centre’s Lab Manager and other staff to write risk assessments and ensure that they are regularly updated;
  • Maintaining cell lines generated and banked in the lab and ensure that all tissue culture users work according to health and safety guidelines and regulations;
  • Participating in key aspects of general lab management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment, and materials), in coordination with HT facilities and service units.

Job requirements

Mandatory requirements:

  • MSc in biological or biomedical disciplines;
  • At least 5 years of proven experience as Lab Technician;
  • Track record in the following areas: Advanced cell culture (preferably with human pluripotent stem cell lines, organoids and primary neural cell cultures, including gene editing); Molecular Biology (DNA and RNA manipulation, cloning, sequencing, RT-PCR and library preparation for next-generation sequencing applications), Protein Biochemistry (immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation techniques), Histology and microscopy (including tissue processing techniques, clearing, dissociation and tissue processing for single cell and spatial genomics, stainings, advanced microscopy);
  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.

Preferred requirements:

  • Experience in high-throughput screening and/or high content screening as well as with in vivo models will be consiered a highly relevant added value.

  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to lead and gain the assistance and cooperation of others in a team endeavor;
  • Ability to build trust through operating with transparency and creating an open and positive environment;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
