CONTEXT & JOB DESCRIPTION

The ESRF is a world class research facility that produces intense X-ray beam for exploring matter at the nano-scale. The experiments conducted here require extremely high resolution, demanding precise positioning of both machine and beamline components. The Technical Infrastructure Division supports all ESRF divisions, offering essential services including survey and alignment. As part of the Survey & Alignment Group, you will join our dynamic team of technicians and engineers responsible for the precise alignment of the ESRF accelerators and beamlines as well as:

  • providing expert assistance for all positioning and alignment issues related to the accelerators, beamlines; and the ESRF site;
  • the development of new survey and alignment techniques and instrumentation;
  • the control and periodic realignment of the accelerators and beamlines.

Your main missions will include:

  • the analysis and computation of the data sets collected by the Survey & Alignment Group surveyors;
  • analysing site movements, drifts and correlations;
  • developing tools, methodologies and software;
  • preparing analysis reports;
  • developing a coordinates database;
  • participating in surveying campaigns.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Higher university degree (Master, MSc, DESS, Ingeniera Superior, Licenciatura, Laurea or equivalent) in Geomatics Engineering/Surveying;
  • Understanding high precision engineering with a minimum of two to five years' experience in a scientific environment - specifically in the alignment of particule accelerators and related experiments will be evaluated positively;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the tools, skills and techniques used in metrology and micro-geodesy;
  • Proficiency with computers and associated software (MATLAB, C++, Python, R etc.) for data processing and presentation of results;
  • Expertise in AI or ML techniques for analysing large volumes of data, as well as experience in database implementation and management is an asset;
  • Good communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
