Scientist
Plurify
Cambridge, United Kingdom
Join us as we shape the future of stem cell therapies.
Plurify is an early-stage rapidly growing biotech start-up, we are shaping the future of stem cell therapies. Our platform enables the targeted removal of unwanted residual cells that arise during stem cell therapy manufacture. We are grant and venture backed with a solid runway.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Scientist to join our three experienced scientific co-founders and play a pivotal role in our R&D journey. You will be an integral part of our scientific team, provide essential technical support in our Cambridge lab, lead existing R&D projects and contribute to new ones.
At Plurify, we believe that ownership and trust foster excellence. That's why we have flexible working arrangements and encourage each other to explore their own ideas.
As an early-stage company, Plurify offers never-ending opportunities to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities over time.
This role is almost 100% on site at our lab in the Addenbrooke’s area of Cambridge.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and Lead Experiments: Design and lead experiments for various work packages;
- Stay Current with Research: Stay up to date with published work in relevant fields;
- Generate High-Quality data: Perform experiments to optimise and innovate our technology in various settings;
- Perform Data Analysis: Analyse experimental data to derive meaningful insights and guide subsequent research activities;
- Manage Laboratory Inventory and Stocks: Track inventory and order necessary materials in a timely manner;
- Lead Cloning and Construct Manufacturing: Take a proactive role in cloning and construct manufacturing, diligently following best laboratory practices and SOPs;
- Document and Communicate Results: Accurately write up experimental results in a timely fashion and communicate them to the team.
What you need to know or have done:
- PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, synthetic biology or related field;
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, including cloning techniques, bacterial transformation, nucleic acid preparation, gel electrophoresis etc.;
- Experience with cell transfection using various methods;
- Experience with mammalian cell culture;
- Experience with flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy and luciferase assays;
- Track record of diligent ELN practices.
What would be the cherry on top?
- Experience with Oxford Nanopore and other types of next-generation sequencing;
- Experience with Golden Gate and Gibson cloning methods;
- Experience with RT-qPCR;
- Experience with iPSC and differentiation protocols;
- Industry experience, ideally in a start-up environment;
- Experience with bioinformatics/data science and scripting.
You will love this role if:
- You are self-driven: We are a small company who value high trust and high autonomy. You need to be the one to make yourself do the work. Nobody else will;
- You love collaboration: We don’t do workplace politics. If you’re not a team player then we don’t want to play with you;
- You are excited to be on the edge of science: Cutting-edge scientific work is inherently challenging and prone to setbacks. A negative result is only bad if we fail to learn from it;
- You have strong opinions but you hold them loosely: You yearn to design and execute killer experiments that can robustly and quickly test your hypotheses. You pivot quickly away from ideas that are shown not to work;
- You love wearing many hats and learning new things: You will need to acquire new skills as the company grows and are open to taking on new tasks and challenges as our priorities and scope inevitably change;
- You get a buzz from doing great work: At Plurify we have fun whilst doing great science!
You will hate this role if:
- You want to work in a large organisation: There are currently three scientific team members and a fractional COO. We love it, not everybody will;
- You want to know exactly what you will be working on: This changes regularly. We need somebody who can do lots of different things with short notice;
- You want to lead a team straight away: This is not a management role, at least to start with. As we grow, it could become one for the right person.
Benefits we are offering:
- Share Options Plan: Eligible employees may participate in a share options plan, providing a stake in the company's growth and success. As one of our first employees, this may prove significant over the long term;
- Pension Plan with Employer Match: Contribute to your pension, with a matching component from the employer to boost your retirement savings;
- Cutting edge labs: We are based in the CRUK Addenbrookes campus in the heart of Camrbidge’s scientific community.
