Postdoctoral Researcher in Soil Ecology

We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Predictive Community Ecology Group at the Department of Biological and Environmental Science starting on August 4, 2025, or as agreed for a fixed term of 28 months.

The post-doctoral researcher will join a project (funded by the Research Council of Finland) about the roles of soil fauna in the soil carbon cycling processes (PI: Sten Anslan). The main task of a postdoctoral researcher is associated with soil microarthropod experiments to quantify the effect of soil fauna in soil processes related to carbon cycling, which includes data collection on soil chemistry, respiration, microbial biomass, microbial carbon use efficiency, and enzyme activities.

Who we are looking for

Expected qualifications of a candidate include:

  • PhD in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field;
  • Familiarity with techniques such as soil respiration measurements, carbon flux analysis, microbial carbon use efficiency;
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in handling complex datasets;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Very good writing and oral communication skills in English.
