Single-photon Source Research Scientist

Single-photon Source Research Scientist

Quandela

Paris, France

Description

Quandela is a leader in the development and commercialization of quantum computers based on the manipulation of single photons. We are seeking a full-time (permanent contract) Research Engineer to participate in the optimization of Quandela's single-photon sources. We work with quantum dots in micropillar cavities and you will join the research team responsible for improving the brightness and indistinguishability of the devices. You will contribute to the research roadmap of Quandela by exploring advance techniques to address the emitters with laser pulses, together with thoroughly characterizing their noise environment and implementing mitigation strategies. Your results will influence the research strategy for next-generation production devices as well as advancing the field of quantum emitters. The candidate must be highly skilled in experimental optics and have experience in the field of quantum emitters.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate custom setups to address and characterize quantum emitters at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Implement advanced picosecond-pulse shaping and pulse sequences.
  • Implement characterization methods to probe quantum dots and the interaction with their solid-state environment.
  • Propose strategies to improve brightness and indistinguishability, by improving both the device and the optical excitation schemes.
  • Implement a research roadmap and ensure timely delivery of outcomes.
  • Systematically document the results and report your findings (including scientific publications and participation in international conferences).
  • Collaborate with the production teams to transfer successful results.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant topic.
  • 3 years’ experience in a research laboratory.
  • Strong fundamentals in quantum optics and optical microscopy techniques.
  • Understanding of solid-state quantum emitters.
  • Proven ability to build and run complex optical experiments from the ground up.
  • Software coding using Python or other common languages.
  • Team player with an ability to work effectively across multiple projects and departments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain organized, frequent, and clear reporting.
