About the Role

You will be involved in activities related to starting and raw materials to support early-stage process development and late-stage process optimization, transfer, and clinical/commercial manufacturing support for processes producing protein therapeutics and/or gene therapy products. The position is based on the UCB site in Braine-l’Alleud, BELGIUM. Occasionally, you may work from Belgian Leuven site and travel to other locations such as different UCB sites and external partners’ facilities as part of their activities for UCB.

Who You Will Work With

You will collaborate with various process and analytical scientists, working transversally as part of virtual and matrix project teams across different geographies and time zones. You will be part of the DS Process Sciences team, supporting process development for biologics, gene therapy, and synthetic molecules.

What You Will Do

  • You will optimize starting and raw materials usage in drug substance process and cell culture media formulations.
  • You will be responsible for planning and executing experiments using Quality by Design (QbD) principles and Design of Experiment (DoE) methodology.
  • You will analyze your own data and generate development report.
  • You will generate supportive documentation to support technology transfer and regulatory filings relative to starting and raw materials.
  • You will support technology/process transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing.
  • You will participate to investigations related to starting and raw materials.
  • You will participate in the continuous improvement of commercial manufacturing processes.
  • You may support all modalities process development from Biologics, Gene Therapy and Synthetic molecules.

Interested?

For this role, we are looking for the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Master's degree in bioengineering, chemical engineering, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Technical expertise in mammalian-cell-based therapeutic protein and/or viral vector expression and culture systems. Understanding of protein and/or viral vector purification processes.
  • Ability to multitask, organize, and communicate large amounts of data.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a team environment under deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate with colleagues and external partners.
  • Good command of spoken and written scientific English; proficiency in French is a plus.
