The Faculty of Science is looking for a professor in Materials Physics. We are looking for a person with a distinguished academic career and established international reputation in the field of materials physics, especially on the surface and interface studies of inorganic semiconductors and research of thin films. The position involves a close cooperation between experimental research and theory-based modelling. It also includes developing multidisciplinary cooperation between research groups in the Turku University.
The position is located at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, in Materials Research Laboratory that is equipped with modern and diverse surface research equipment. In addition to the lab-based resources, synchrotron radiation is actively used in experimental spectroscopy. Additional experimental opportunities are provided by MARI, a collaboration platform of materials research groups at the departments of physics and astronomy, chemistry, and mechanical and materials engineering of the University of Turku.
The person selected for the position is expected to be able to lead research combining experimental and theoretical activities. The person is expected to obtain domestic and international research funding, to be innovative and active in business cooperation, to participate in basic and postgraduate education and their development, and to take part in university administration tasks. Highly developed teaching skills are also expected.
The successful applicant may be appointed to a permanent full professorship depending on his/her previous academic merits in research, teaching, and academic leadership and societal interaction. For the position of Full Professor, we seek experienced and internationally renowned experts who already have an excellent publication record and success in acquiring external research funding and evidence of ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research.
