Postdoc in Structural Biology of Stem Cell Division

Postdoc in Structural Biology of Stem Cell Division

IEO - European Institute of Oncology

Milan, Italy

The team of Marina Mapelli at the European Institute of Oncology IEO of Milano (Italy) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to investigate mechanisms of Wnt-signaling in stem cell asymmetric divisions in the intestinal crypts, and their implication in cancer development. The position is immediately available within a project funded by AIRC and the Italian Ministry of Health.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in structural biology, with particular interest in crystallography or Cryo-Electron Microscopy techniques, and good experience in biochemistry of large macromolecular assemblies.

The project will explore fundamental questions on mechanisms of cell proliferation, stem cell asymmetry, and fate decision. To gain molecular information, research in our lab integrates biochemistry and structural biology with cell biology of intestinal cells. Experimental approaches such as biochemistry, structural biology, and cell biology of mitosis are well established in the lab (Culurgioni & Mari, Nat. Comm. 2018; Carminati, NSMB 2016; Gallini, Curr. Biol. 2016), and additional techniques of stem cell manipulation and imaging in intestinal organoids are being developed collaboratively.

The recruited Postdoctoral fellow will be integrated in the Mapelli lab, at the IEO Department of Experimental Oncology based at the IFOM-IEO Campus (Milan, IT), which provides an excellent environment at the interface between structural biology, cell biology and cancer genetics. The working language in the lab is English.
