Postdoctoral Position: New Materials for Redox-Flow and Zinc-Ion Batteries

EPFL - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne

Lausanne, Switzerland

The Laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces (LPI) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our battery team, which focuses on the development of new materials for redox-flow and zinc-ion batteries. Collaborating closely with our industrial partners and an experienced team of postdoctoral and senior researchers, we aim to create redox flow and zinc-ion batteries for stationary applications. The primary objective of this project is to advance the established vanadium redox-flow and MnO2-based zinc-ion systems and explore novel alternatives for electrodes and electrolytes.

Job Description

As a Postdoc in our team, you will play a key role in advancing the field of redox-flow and zinc-ion batteries through the synthesis, characterization, and testing of new materials. The main duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Leading experiments for the synthesis, characterization, and testing of new materials designed for redox-flow and zinc-ion batteries;
  • Evaluating the performance of these materials in both standard electrochemical cells and battery systems;
  • Providing supervision and guidance to master and intern students working on related projects;
  • Contributing to the preparation of publications to disseminate research findings.

Profile

To be successful in this role, we expect the following qualifications and skills:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field;
  • A strong background in electrochemistry with a focus on batteries;
  • Advanced knowledge in materials characterization techniques;
  • Demonstrated creativity, self-motivation, and a passion for scientific exploration;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members;
