Mission

The Center for Artificial Muscles has been settled up in Microcity, the EPFL Microtechnology antenna in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. This Center, founded by the “Werner-Siemens Stiftung”, is developing biocompatible soft artificial muscles for cardiac, urological and face reconstruction applications in order to become one of the key place in the next decade to propose a credible alternative to current cumbersome devices.

This multidisciplinary project requires knowledge in soft actuators, particularly in dielectric elastomer actuators (DEA), control and power electronics.

Main duties and responsibilities

Support the development of high mechanical power soft actuators based on Dielectric Elastomer Actuator (DEA);
Design electromechanical tests benches (hardware and software) for assessment of devices;
Design electronics to supply custom-made DEAs;
Participate actively to in-vivo preclinical tests;
Supervision of doctoral students and close collaboration with medical team;
Will be in charge of Innosuisse projects.

Profile

PhD (passed 2021 latest) in microengineering, mechanics, electrical engineering or related fields;
Experience on biomedical innovative actuators is a must;
Strong experimental skills: prototyping, electronics design, test bench development and control;
Knowledge on FEM, CAD, Matlab, Labview and electrical modelling are a plus;
Motivation for multidisciplinary research and team projects;
Self-motivated, creative and enthusiastic;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).
