Professor Epidemiology of Non-communicable Diseases

Function
You will be part of the Independent Academic Staff (ZAP) and you will contribute to the three core tasks of the University of Antwerp: education (40%), research (40%) and service (20%). Organizing and managerial tasks may also be part of your assignment.
Education
- You will provide high-quality education in epidemiology and more specifically in epidemiology of non-communicable diseases (NCDs);
- Your teaching assignment evolves according to the training programs. You will teach epidemiology-related courses as a (co-)lecturer until a weighted equivalent of 10 credits (credits) is reached, including the course” Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases and Mental Health” (3 credits) in the Master Epidemiology;
- You act as an 'Academic Supervisor' for master's students and as a supervisor of master's theses and supervise doctoral students;
- In the master's programs of the FMHS in which you are involved, you will provide methodological support to students working on their master's thesis.
Research
- You will develop independent scientific research in the field of epidemiology and actively participate in and support the activities of the FAMPOP research groups through joint projects;
- You acquire and manage national and international research funding;
- You publish in international journals and professional literature;
- You will build an international scientific network. You supervise doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers.
Service
- You take on internal and external assignments of scientific and social services. You will also offer services within the organisational structure of your research group, faculty and university, including active participation in the selection committee for students of the Master's programme in Epidemiology.
Organization and leadership
- You take on coordinating responsibilities in the field of education, research and/or service provision and you contribute to policy;
- You lead in a motivating, coaching way. In doing so, you pay attention to the growth process and the development of your colleagues.
Profile
- You obtained a doctorate with a dissertation in (bio)medical sciences, epidemiology or equivalent;
- You have a master's degree in epidemiology (in accordance with the qualification Epidemiologist A of the Dutch Society for Epidemiology);
- You have experience in teaching epidemiological methods at the university level;
- You have a proven track record in epidemiological research. Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies;
- Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. You are motivated to develop your teaching skills further through the professionalisation opportunities available;
- If you do not speak Dutch, the administrative language of the university, you should be willing to obtain a CEFR B2 level of proficiency in Dutch. As soon as you take on teaching duties as a programme component coordinator, you should be able to demonstrate a CEFR C1 level of proficiency in the language of instruction.
