We are seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with a background in Immunology to join the laboratory of Dr. Claudia Ribeiro de Almeida at the Babraham Institute. The successful candidate will be hired on a Wellcome Trust and Royal Society funded project, to strengthen our expertise in the discovery of new molecular mechanisms underpinning B-cell immunity.
This project will build on our recent findings on the RNA helicase DDX1, which revealed that B-cell positive selection and affinity maturation in the germinal centre are particularly sensitive to changes in protein synthesis efficiency. The PDRA will be using novel mouse models we have generated, to investigate how the quality of germinal centre reactions is determined by RNA helicase function in mRNA translation. The work involves in vivo analysis of mouse immune responses and ex vivo B-cell cultures, combined with a range of cellular, molecular and biochemical assays to assess B-cell function.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in the Immunology field, with experience working with mouse models, flow cytometry and molecular assays.
