Join our team as a Scientist in Strain Engineering Vitamins/Carotenoids and Strain Conservation, driving innovative biotechnological production of vitamins and carotenoids. You’ll be responsible for strain engineering activities (approx. 50%) and strain conservation of all production related strains (approx. 50%).

Your key responsibilities

  • Support the set-up of a new R&D team in Tulln, transferring strain engineering capabilities from a research center in the USA;
  • Actively work on strain engineering projects (including work in the lab);
  • Set-up and implementation of a strain conservation system, maintain the system and take care of cell banking for manufacturing;
  • Provide information and reports on strain generation and strain characterization and support safety assessments of production strains for filing regulatory dossiers;
  • Mentor and develop junior scientists and lab technicians;
  • Communicate and interact with internal collaborators and R&D teams, third parties, and strategic partners;
  • Ensure quality and compliance to internal and external requirements in diverse bio-industrial projects and especially in cell banking for manufacturing (e.g. Kosher, Halal).

You bring

  • Ph.D. or M.S. plus 4 years of relevant experience, with willingness for short-term rotation in Lexington, MA;
  • Subject matter expert in microbial biotechnology, genetics, microbiology with experience in yeast, fungi, and bacteria;
  • Experience with cell banking;
  • Strong sense of responsibility;
  • Understanding quality management principles, keen awareness of quality-related issues;
  • Experience with Kosher and Halal requirements for cell banking is a plus;
  • Organizational skills.
