Quantum Optics Engineer
Quandela
Palaiseau, Massy or Paris, France
Description
We are seeking a full-time Quantum Optics Engineer to work on characterization and optimization of our single-photon sources based on semiconductor quantum dots.
The ideal candidate will bring together strong background in quantum optics and semiconductor physics and practical experience with applied laboratory optics. In this role, you will be responsible for independently conducting characterization of single-photon sources, analyzing data, and providing timely feedback to the nanofabrication team. You will also propose and implement advanced techniques for operation of single-photon sources to improve their efficiency. Your work will have a direct impact on improving the performance of Quandela's single-photon sources as well as contributing to the global field of quantum emitters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform optical characterization of quantum light sources at cryogenic temperatures;
- Design, build, and operate free-space and fibered optical systems for advanced characterization of quantum light sources;
- Deliver timely feedback on device performance to the nanofabrication team to help driving further improvements;
- Ensure proper documentation of all experiments, results, and methodologies, maintaining high standards for reproducibility;
- Support and improve internal software tools for data acquisition;
- Propose and implement strategies to improve key metrics of quantum light sources (brightness, indistinguishability) by using novel optical interrogation techniques and optimized device structures.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Physics, Photonics, or a closely related field;
- At least 3 years hands-on experience in an optical research laboratory;
- Strong fundamentals in quantum optics, semiconductor physics, and applied optics;
- Proficiency in programming using Python;
- Experience with cryogenic equipment is a plus;
- Experience in working independently in a laboratory environment, including the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment;
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and work collaboratively within diverse teams;
- Ability to maintain organized, frequent, and clear reporting;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in French is a plus.
