Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Virology: Dynamic of Viral and Cellular Transcriptomes During HIV Infection

Institut Cochin

Paris, France

Research project

With over 38 million people infected worldwide, HIV remains a major public health issue. Antiviral therapies are effective in limiting virus replication, but its persistence in viral reservoirs hinders the hope of curing patients. The objective of the project developed by the postdoctoral researcher is to deepen knowledge of the molecular mechanisms which contribute to the regulation of the viral and cellular transcriptomes during viral replication and latency. The research program will be based on techniques in cell biology (cell culture, isolation of T lymphocytes from blood samples), virology (viral production and infections), molecular biology (RT-qPCR, Western blot, immunopurification of complexes...), flow cytometry, imaging (immunofluorescence), as well as sequencing analyses (short and long reads).

Main Activities

  • Conduct a research project to understand the dynamic of HIV and cellular transcriptomes during infection: Formulate hypotheses related to the research project within the context of existing literature, design the experimental approach, conduct experiments, process data, and analyze the results;
  • Provide regular reports on experimental results to the project supervisor and during laboratory meetings;
  • Disseminate and showcase the results (reports, contribution to figure formatting, scientific article writing, participation in conferences);
  • Supervision and training of students/Ph.D. candidates.

  • High throuput sequencing analyses;
  • Work in BSL2 and BSL3 environment;
  • Work with blood samples;
  • Possible variability in working hours.

Expertise

  • Good understanding of molecular biology, genomic, transcriptomic and preferably specializing in virology;
  • Knowledge and expertise in bioinformatic would be a strong asset;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Know-how

  • Skills in experimental laboratory work with the ability to independently plan and execute experiments;
  • Previous experience in working in BSL2 environment is required and experience in BSL3 is preferred or a willingness to be trained for work in BSL3 conditions;
  • Previous experience in molecular biology, cellular biology, and biochemistry (cloning, western blot, RT-qPCR, isolation and analysis of protein and ribonucleoprotein complexes, gene silencing or editing, siRNA/shRNA/CRISPR-CAS9) is required;
  • Computer skills and proficiency in biology software, with a willingness to learn new programs and software as necessary;
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry technology and immunofluorescence would be a plus.

Ability

  • Organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to analyze information, write clear and concise research reports, documents and prepare research papers;
  • Communications skills and ability to work well collaboratively with colleagues from multidisciplinary background.

Experience(s) required

  • PhD in molecular virology;
  • Bioinformatic skills.

Diploma level and training

  • PhD in Virology, molecular biology, transcriptomic, bioinformatic.
